Material Requirements Planning
Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems are a model, a guess, of how future customer needs will affect manufacturing operations. How closely this model reflects reality is determined by the quality of the data used in the system. This data comes from two types of sources, sources that are generally considered within a firm’s control and sources that are not.
For sources within a firm’s control accurate data luckily exists but, alarmingly, is likely not being used to its full potential. Whereas, for sources not within a firm’s control, that data, even so called 'high quality' data, is much more prone to inaccuracies, often being based on purely on subjective analysis. Understanding how to collect, interpret, and utilize data from these two sources is critical for any company using an MRP system.
Whether your company is new to MRP or looking to optimize an existing system, Sierra PLM can help.
